Our Origin Story
For year's our community has always joined together to offer a fun evening on Oct. 31st for kids and families to "trunk-or-treat" in the school parking lot. It has been something our community has looked forward to year after year.
A couple years ago, as Turpin was recovering from the shut-down of Covid, the members of the community that normally hosted the event decided they didn't want to do the event anymore. It was a crazy time for all of us, so we said no worries! After some back and forth, our kids ministry team decided they wanted to begin hosting a glow-in-the-dark, carnival style, candy-filled event with a #morethemerrier attitude! Our fearless leader + Children's Director, Jennie Lynch, (along with our AMAZING volunteer + set up teams!) have turned what was once trunk-or-treat turned into what we know today as Candyland.
Candyland is a night where an amazing team made up of over of over 26+ volunteers host up to 20 candy, food, & games booths and an eating area themed after Candy Dots!
We celebrate with enthusiasm how sweet it is to trust in Jesus. (Keep an eye out: every booth has a scripture associated with it!)
And every single booth will GLOW for some glow-in-the-dark fun!
HOW IT WORKS:
Start at the ticket booth to grab your candy bags and booth tickets. 20 stops along the game board for kids to collect candy + prizes.... through the gumdrop path and the lollipop forest, of course! Then end the game at the hotdog stand + candy dots eating area for a night for a quick bite with the family.

Come in costume (or not)! Everyone is welcome, and sometimes even the dogs come dressed up (just make sure they're on a leash)! If you have time feel free to stick around and visit a while or take your snack with you. There's no right or wrong answer.
This is a come and go event.

VOLUNTEER AT THE EVENT
It takes dozens of volunteers to make this event what it's grown to be. We would love it if you joined the fun!
This is a community-wide, everyone's invited event. If you go to a different church or don't go to a church at all and want to volunteer, we'd love to have you!
This year we have 4 opportunities to get involved!
BOOTH HOST VOLUNTEER
OCT 31ST
5:00PM-9:30PM
*spots are limited*
Booth Hosts are the hands and feet of the night. Each volunteer will host a booth and pass out candy/treats as kids and teens travel around the game board.
As a booth host, the set up work is done for you... but you will need to make sure there's enough candy for 300 kids for your specific booth.
We also ask that if you can, you help tear down your booth before you go.
SET UP VOLUNTEER
OCT. 30-31ST Evenings (TBD)
Set-up volunteers work behind the scenes but are essential to making sure each light and t-post is where it needs to be. Set up volunteers should be able to lift a good amount, bend over to ground, use a hammer/tools, and possibly hop on a scissor lift if need be.
Usually set up starts on the evening of the 30th in order to have time to get everything set up.
DESIGN TEAM VOLUNTEER
Once or twice a week every week until Oct. 31st. (Evenings)
Design team volunteers are the creative rockstars behind Candyland! They make sure every S is glittered, every light is placed perfectly, and new booths get created with pizazz! Are you a creative visionary, crafting genius, or can follow instructions? The design team needs you!
TEAR DOWN VOLUNTEER
OCT 31ST
8:45PM-10:00PM

Have no desire to work a booth or paint anything with glitter, but can throw things away and pack totes as instructed?
After the event a whole team of volunteers is needed to un-do Candyland. This opportunity is perfect for those that don't mind staying until the job gets done, can follow instructions, & can carry things up/downstairs if need be.
Can teens volunteer?
We welcome teens volunteering, we just ask if they are under 16 yrs old they volunteer with a parent or adult.
Not quite sure which opportunity is right for you? Have questions? Want to just talk with someone?
Great! No problem. Email us your contact info and we'll be in touch!
